Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto at Izod Center

The greatest highlight of our trip for J would be Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto concert at New Jersey’s Izod Center! It was an eye opener for me! Their concert had a magical effect like an art installation in Disneyland!

We thoroughly enjoyed Coldplay’s performance, they sing really well and had great stage presence. They gave us a wristband and it lighted up during the performance! It was magical!

The disturbing part of the experience was the two acts before Coldplay started. There were two acts between seven to nine and it was pathetic. People were strolling in and out of the stadium, less than half the seats were filled, and their performance was bad. To be fair, the first act whose name I can’t recall wasn’t that bad, but the second act by Welsh/Greek singer Marina and the Diamonds brought cold chills down our spine with her strange vocal and sharp pitch performance. I’m quivering just thinking about her. It was strange.

We didn’t enjoy the fact that we had to sit through 2 hours of poor performance and long breaks in between after paying so much to enjoy the main act. We felt cheated to reach the stadium at seven when the real performance only starts at nine. Perhaps this practice is common in the states because we saw people picnicking and barbequing at the parking lot before the concert!

The other poor experience we had was the inaccessibility of the concert location. Izod Center is at New Jersey, and we took a bus from Port of Authority in New York City. Going over was a smooth and efficient ride but going back was horrid. Imagine thousands of people streaming out from the stadium, all wanting to board the same bus heading for the same direction. We waited for close to an hour before we got up the bus. It was madness.

Having said that, it is still a once in a lifetime experience and we will probably do that again if given a choice. Hah.
