It is true. Most of us can live with the bare minimum in terms of assets and things through the love and strength of people surrounding us.

Email Reminder!

Screen Shot 2013-01-30 at 10.19.47 AM

I love service providers who go the extra mile just with simple technologies and reminders like this. Our National Library Board allows us to create an account with them and sign up for email reminders when the books borrowed are nearing the due date. I love this as I am always forgetting my due dates especially when it comes to credit card payments! This can be costly with all those late charges, interests fees and fines. But I am glad service providers like NLB has email reminders like this and even a link for book renewal! Now you don’t have to lug yourself and the books to the library just to renew your books! Another service provider I love is Standchart who often send SMS reminders on bill payment nearing to payment date too! Kudos to these two service providers!

Yoga at Home

photo

Decided to practise Yoga in the limited space I have this morning and am glad I practised for almost an hour before giving up. Hah. If you enjoy practising Yoga at home once in a while, you may like this app I downloaded for free as a background music companion. It is a simple app that provides customisable soothing music for yoga, sleep or a home massage if you like.

Relax M. (yoga tunes works too but with only 2 free tunes)

Relax Melodies allows you to pick the ambience music you prefer, for instance, over here, I’ve picked river, flute and birds. Ohmm.

Running around the neighbourhood’s park.

It has been a long while since I put on my running shoes and I’m glad I did! Decided to go for a short jog and explore the neighbourhood’s park and finally cover the entire perimeter of the lake! The air is so clean! Running in a park sure beats running along a busy road! Enjoying the nature’s gifts and loving all pretty things that God created for us. Enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

When I went on a company trip to Seoul last year, we lugged home a lot of Market O brownie. When my sister is back from her Seoul trip recently, she lugged home Market O Choco Cracker. I love their packaging. Always so pretty and cute and it is absolutely yummy. Thin crispy cracker with a generous layer of chocolate. Awfully good.

Together with my mum and sister, we had a weekday dim sum breakfast at Red Star. It is a quaint old dim sum restaurant where dim sums are still served with push trollies. According to my mum, in its heyday, it is a popular place to hold weddings in the 80s and it is considered something luxurious compared to void deck or coffee shop weddings.

There were a few hits and misses here, the Char Siew Puff was disappointing. The crust was too thick and not as flavourful. The Xiao Long Pao has no soup in it and the Prawn Dumpling and Egg tart was mediocre too. Other than these, the rest were yummy!

Having bad cramps again. Sigh. But nothing a hot cocoa can’t solve.

Groupon Deal: Silver Jewellery Making Workshop by JDMIS

Screen Shot 2013-01-23 at 10.11.42 PM

I told you Groupon is making me a spendthrift and I’m not even kidding. Have you ever dream of being a jeweller? Or to customise and make your own jewellery? But you are not into looping beads or charms together but am interested in making jewellery from precious metal?

I always wonder how do people in Etsy create pretty and customisable jewelries and when I chanced upon this Groupon deal – Silver Jewellery Making Workshop by JDMIS – (the deal just got extended by two more days) I thought it is rather interesting and a good experience to get my hands dirty just to give this a try! It is a little pricey at $88 for a 3 hour workshop but you get to keep your 10gm worth of 0.999 silver pendant / ring you created which they are retailing at $40 over for a packet of 10gm Silver clay.

I’ve called to ask, you can’t make anything under the moon during this workshop as the main purpose of the class is to teach us the techniques of using Silver Clay! But you may deviate a little just to add a bit of personality! You heard me right, they are using a clay like material where you mould into the shape you like, sit it over fire, start scrubbing and all and tadah! Your play doh will turn into a shiny pure silver accessory! Ok, maybe I simplified the process a little, but that’s basically what it is. I just bought the deal and hopefully will get to have a ball of fun in April (when I finally have the time to sign up!)!

Can the people in Groupon just give us a break!? Stop having cool deals! Ah! With the app, it’s just too accessible and tempting to just click BUY!

Groupon Deal: Instax Mini 7S

news_258

Groupon is turning me into a spendthrift! My previous Instax camera broke and I bought an Instax Mini 7s White off Groupon for $84.90! I thought it is quite a good deal! The blue one at $69.90 got snap up pretty quickly! While I was thinking if I should get the cheaper one which is ugly or pay another $15 for aesthetic without additional function, it got snapped up! In the end, I was left with the hard decision to buy the white one. Haha.

Are you addicted to Groupon or other deals website? Can I declare I am officially broke again?

I love Fishpond

upload

My book from Fishpond is here! I love Fishpond and have bought several books from them! I find their prices competitive and at times lower than Bookdepository and their delivery is reliable and fast! At times they even bring forward the delivery date from the original date they estimated upon purchase. I also love that Fishpond provides friendly and fast email response and gives regular updates on the status of your order. Now I can’t wait to read them, except that work is crazy at the Frontline!

Reason to buy from an overseas online retailer? The books cost much less than our brick and mortar bookstore! At Kino, this book costs over $30 but I only paid $22! They also provide international free shipping! They save on rental and other operational costs and spend it on postage! Also, you can get books that is newly release in US / UK and by the time you get your hands on it, it is not even in our local bookstore!

I just bought a huge pink luggage for my Kobe trip! It is 17 days and during winter, I need a sturdy big one which can be my reliable traveling buddy.

I usually get my luggage at Mustafa and this time it is no different! Got a Lojel (my family’s trusted luggage brand) hard case luggage which is huge and relatively light. I pick my luggage based on size, brand, 4 wheel rotation is a must, bright colour (for easy identification) and budget. This is a little pricey at $182 but for the size and quality, I think it is well worth it. I hope it lasts! I am officially broke.

My dear sister went Korea to meet up with her boy and lugged home all these stuffs for me! Thank you Sister! Love you! The masks are more than enough to last a year if I diligently use them once a week! Oh, I hope I have the discipline! So far so good for the past few weeks! Haha.

The Impossible (2012)

movie_pic_0201212201355996920

A true life story based on one family’s survival of 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, The Impossible stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. It is a painful movie to watch as there are many scenes with damaging injuries and people losing lives and families. However, it is a beautiful story where people are determine to survive, to find their family and to sacrifice oneself to help others. It is a story filled with hope and humility. I shed a few tears for this show and it is good. Even though there is not much of a storyline, it is a simple one played by a loveable and sincere casts, it is enough to touch my heart. Perhaps I’m biased since I love to read random biographies of people surviving tragedies.

Going bare down south at Fabulous Tan

Always thought about going bare down south but didn’t had the courage or the need to do it. Chatted with Steph and she recommended Brazilian Wax and I was toying with the idea before plucking my courage to buy a deal off Deals.com.sg! For $18, you get a Brazilian Wax at Fabulous Tan. After speaking to my sister about it, I realized she has been going bare for a while and was using IPL treatment instead! So I also bought a deal off Groupon for 3 IPL session.

After my UTI scare, I was even more determined to pay attention to my feminine hygiene!

To cut the story short, here is a short review of my experience at Fabulous Tan. It was my first time going for a waxing service and it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

The heat of both the hard and soft wax are tolerable and it was kind of comfortable for me. It is probably because I love taking hot shower and am used to hot water on my skin! The pain was uncomfortable but bearable, definitely not the scream-your-head-off kind of pain! It wasn’t shocking either. It’s either because I had a higher pain tolerance or I imagined the worst! Haha. Fabulous Tan at Cineleisure is more like a no frill and fuss free environment. Unlike a spa environment, everything is basic and efficient. Haha.

Wash yourself clean before the session

The hard and soft wax. This is a bad picture, I was stripping and fumbling with my phone!

The view from my bed. Not much of a view there.

photo-4

The bed. No towel to cover yourself, just you and a sheet of paper.

My lovely therapist – Chester – who is really attentive and gentle. She kept checking on me if I’m ok or still alive. Haha.

If you asked me if I would recommend anyone to Fabulous Tan via Groupon/Deals, I would say, yeah, go for it, cause it’s really cheap and I like that they will send reminder SMS on your appointment and even an SMS to get you to rate the service after your session. The session was also fuss free and comfortable. But having said that, I would like to try IPL next!

Here are some tips from this session:-

  • Do not shave em before the session, let it grow for 2 – 3 weeks. The hair must be long enough to allow sufficient grip on the wax. I shave them a week ago and it was too short. In the end, the therapist had to use a few more rounds of wax, a tweezer and put her face really close.
  • Wear loose fitting bottoms. Preferably a skirt or a dress. This also includes your inner wear. Wear some loose fitting granny cotton pants to let her breathe!
  • Inform your therapist that it’s your first time! They will be more attentive and gentle!
  • Distract yourself with your phone. Thankfully I had my phone with me and I just chatted, took pictures, and surf online. Hah.
  • Relax and breathe! I know laying there without your pants may seem intimidating at first, but if you imagine yourself as a piece of meat, like a turkey waiting to be marinated, it’s not that bad. Haha

Can you remember your first waxing experience? Where and how was it?
