Catch up at Chir Chir, 313 Somerset, Singapore

It has been a long while since we last caught up with Sue Ann, Tim and Baby Seth. Baby Seth is still chirpy like a birdie and has grown so much!

We headed to Chir Chir at 313 Somerset and had a blast!

IMG_8369

The queue was crazy! It is probably an hour wait but thankfully Tim’ sister got us seats and we skipped the queue.
Chir Chir is a Korean Fried Chicken joint but we soon realized; it is not just another Korean Fried Chicken fast food joint! They have a wide range of chicken dishes, salads and interesting drinks.

My guy went along with the plan to have our dinner at Chir Chir with much hesitation. He is a conscious eater and no, he doesn’t eat fried stuff. Thankfully, Chir Chir’s Rosemary roast chicken is superbly tender and well marinated. He was pleasantly surprised and loves it to bits! Their mango salad is yummy too and we were relieved that they offer some healthier alternatives!

Nonetheless, we did sink our teeth into those garlic fried chicken and cheesy chicken fillet and drown those chicken with beer with whipped cream. Yums!

Chir Chir just open a branch at Bedok Point if you fancy some Korean Fried Chicken and beer!

We celebrated Queen Laurel’s First Birthday yesterday and she is really too cute! Love her cheerful and curious personality! I can’t wait to see her grow up to be a sassy little toddler, conquering her little adventurous world!

For her birthday, we got her 2 toys! I went shopping alone and when I took a picture and sent him my choices, he commented that I am bias as I picked toys based on my childhood preference. I didn’t realized it until he pointed it out! I picked it because I love lego and Polly Pocket as a child! I also love Playdoh and pretend toys like Kitchen sets (the irony of it as I can’t cook to save my life) !

A Special Gift for Baby Seth and a deal for all!

Taking a break from my holiday posts (yes, I do lead a normal lead, and I do wish I’m a full time traveler), I’m here to share a great deal for all mummies or friends of soon to pop mummies!

You know social media works when someone like me knows exactly what to get for a friend’s baby shower! Back in March 14, I read Lady J’s post on a perfect present for her friend’s little one and I thought it was the perfect gift! I didn’t bookmark the page or note it down but I thought, wow, if I have a kid, I would love this too! And just two weeks back, when I was cracking my head to source for Baby Seth’s present, Lady J’s post on MyBabyGift popped right into my mind! Talk about brand recall and “Top of the Mind” brand!

IMG_3397

“MyBabyGift is a luxurious baby gift boutique offering Personalized Premium Baby Hampers & unique babies gifts , both for babies and mummies. All gifts are elegantly presented in our MyBabyGift signature gift box. Our products are not only beautiful, they are also highly practical and durable! We spent considerable time researching, selecting and testing every product we sell. All products are 100% super soft cotton. The baby’s name is delicately embroidered on selected products and your baby gift is beautifully wrapped in our special signature box with a classic satin ribbon.”

– Extracted from MyBabyGift

There were many reasons to get a gift from MyBabyGift and I’m sure many of you can relate to them! Before I begin, I think I’m sounding like I’m writing a proposal to convince my boss to pick my marketing strategy! As a matter of fact, I thought I need a lot of convincing from the man to get this, but he just nodded and say, go ahead. Haha. And oh, to clarify, I didn’t received any monetary benefits from MyBabyGift but I did enjoy a $10 off their hamper using an offer code listed in their Facebook page!

So here are my personal reasons for picking this gift!

Baby’s Mummy is a Glamorous One: If you know my friend, she is one glamorous and stylish babe, you know her child can’t settle for an ordinary gift. It must be special! Extraordinary! Look at her baby shower’s picture! She has a dessert table for Seth’s One Month Old Party! This is even more glamorous than a wedding! Haha.

IMG_3398

Grabbed from Seth’s Facebook (yes, this dude has a facebook page!)

Gift Differentiation: Many friends will be gifting baby clothes and toys, but after receiving 20 – 30 gifts from different friends and relatives, the receiver may not remember who gave what after a while. I want Baby Seth to remember, Auntie Serene bought her a towel with his name on it! I think it’s cool, but maybe not Baby Seth 20 years down the road.

Special Keepsake: I heard it’s really really fast for babies to outgrow their clothes and toys and soon, the regular gifted clothes and toys will be passed down to others, donated or kept in storage. But which mum will give away a towel/jumper/blanket with their precious little one’s name embroidered on it! I won’t! I will probably keep them for as long as it last!

A Romantic Gift: Some of my practical mummy friends prefer supermarket vouchers while others prefer cash, yes, baby can be expensive! I heard they drink a tin of milk within 2 weeks and used up diapers like toilet papers! Gasped! So yes, gift vouchers and cash is good, but leave those to their relatives! I believe this is one luxurious gift which even the practical mum will love. It is something that a new mum may not have the heart to splurge on but will be thrilled to receive! I know I would! Gosh, why am I getting excited about this.

Yet still Practical: It is after all still baby clothes and necessity, we are not talking about diamonds you know!

I don’t have to leave my home: This was one of the best reason! Everything was settled online, I bought the items using my iPhone in a car ride on a Saturday, received them within 3 days! Best of all, it included a card with my message, packed really nicely and delivered to my place! It is best for friends who are overseas and would like to send a gift to your friends in Singapore too! They deliver to hospital or home!

IMG_3317

Look at how delighted Sue Ann (she is still a hottie, can’t believe she just popped!) is when receiving her gift! She squealed in joy and said, this was what Fann Wong received too!

photo

Haha. Yes, Fann Wong received this for her Baby Zed too! Haha.

When we left her place, the man commented that, seeing how happy the mummy is, it was money well spent. What I forget to tell him was, that’s our Sue Ann. Ever happy and bubbly Sue Ann.

Seeing how thrilled my friend is with the gift, it got me really excited to want to share this deal with my friends! So I unabashedly asked the folks from MyBabyGift if they would like to spread the love to others!

So here’s a special deal for you:

Celebrating the Centenary of the Most Beloved Tramp

Apologize for not blogging for a while as I was busy being out and about. Heh. But don’t worry, I’m back!

20 Apr, 2014 9:12 am

My sister’s boyfriend, Hong Yi had an extra pair of tickets to a fundraising film screening event – Celebrating the Centenary of the Most Beloved Tramp: Charlie Chaplin! It was an enjoyable evening with the company of Lydia babe!
Even though I’ve heard so much about Charlie Chaplin, I’ve never seen his film before!

20 Apr, 2014 9:12 am

This event gave us a chance to enjoy his film in a magical way. Three short silent films were shown, yes silent films and initially I was really worried that I will fall asleep but my fear was unfounded as there was a live music performance accompanying the film.

20 Apr, 2014 9:12 am

The music brought out the spirit of the film and Charlie Chaplin film is indeed hilarious! No wonder he got so popular back in the 1920’s! There isn’t much entertainment back then even during the Roaring Twenties and these black and white short films must be a breath of fresh air for them!

20 Apr, 2014 9:12 am

Check out the old school seats at Alliance Francaise de Singapour

20 Apr, 2014 9:12 am

Here are the three films that we watched

  • The Kid Auto Race at Venice (1914) – Est. Screening time – 6 min
  • The Vagabond (1916) – Est. Screening Time – 24 min 45 sec
  • The Immigrant (1917) – Est. Screening time – 20 min

The first film is my favourite! Unpretentious and super hilarious! Charlie Chaplin crashed an actual race by being a nuisance and getting in the way of camera and interferes with the race. This caused great frustration to the public and photographer who are unknowingly featured in his film. Through his various films, I can only conclude on one thing, people in the 1920s were really violent! The way they shoved Charlie Chaplin is shocking. Haha.

Thank you Hong Yi for the tickets and thank you Lydia for accompany me to the show!

Ivan & Catherine’s Wedding, The Andaman, Langkawi

So the main purpose for my recent visit to Langkawi was for Ivan and Catherine’s wedding and here are some pictures I grabbed off Facebook of her wedding! The bride requested for an unplugged wedding, which means, no cell phone and no photo taking to avoid photos taken from her photographer to look like this.

1 Mar, 2014 9:51 am

So, here are some of the pictures!

It was a terribly hot day and we all got burnt, but because of the glorious clear and bright day, all the pictures turned out beautiful! Yay! The wedding ceremony was held at the beach at 5pm and it was indeed a beautiful sight!

Colin, popsicles and paper umbrella save the day! Haha.

Dinner was held at 7pm at a beach deck restaurant. Look at all the pretty gift! The bride was nice to lug these gifts home from Bangkok and allowed her guests to pick one!

We all had a blast at the dinner which ended with 10 minutes of fireworks and a quick dance session! As the hotel has many retirees and guests who enjoys some peace, loud music was forbidden after 11pm. Boo!

After their wedding dinner, some of us proceeded to the lobby lounge for some quick chilling out. The bride was really sporty that night (not sure if it’s the alcohol!) sang the groom a song! Haha. Their friend also sang and dedicated a song to the couple. He is definitely not drunk but he was surely high and can sing pretty well.

Things to Look Forward to in 2014.

I know 2014 will be a blast because there are so many things to look forward to!

  • Lydia and Keng Moh’s wedding at Chambers, The Arts House. I’m sure the wedding will be a beautiful one! This babe has many DIY ideas and the venue is so unique!
  • Cat and Ivan’s wedding in Langkawi! Attending my first destination wedding! Can’t wait to stay in the luxury resort, The Andaman! Can’t wait for my first Parasailing experience, Island hopping in a Yacht and an actual beach wedding with BBQ at the side.
  • Family nine days Taiwan trip in May! Weee

Going to add more to this list of “Things to Look Forward to in 2014” haha.

Staycation with the SSSS girls!

We had a staycation with the SSSS girls during one of the weekends at Beaufort Sentosa with our pool of cupcake coin bank money. The other girls went to adventure cove while I nurse myself in bed at home trying to combat my flu. Joined them in the evening for dinner, a stayover and a breakfast! It is a great relaxing weekend catching up to each other! Love the girls to bits and we should so do this once a year!

Vintage Black and White Polaroid

photo (22)

Have you seen a really old Polaroid in action before? One which is older than our parents? I’ve not. But photo loving Mike owns one and is such a darling to take pictures for us! Can you imagine me gushing over it? I love all things vintage and seeing this baby in action is priceless! This vintage Polaroid takes black and white pictures! Nice!

Mike is also a part time photographer and owns a small PR firm which writes and takes photos for business or personal events. Apparently you can engage his service to take such vintage polaroid at weddings too! Wow.

Learning to be the Perfect Shopping Companion

It is tough finding a perfect shopping companion and I am glad I found one. Here are some traits of my perfect shopping companion. You may find it in your best friends, siblings, families or partners.

  • One who helps to pick out pretty things that will made you look stunning and if you do, nudge you to buy them.
  • One who is honest and will tell you if you look fat or if it is not value for money.
  • One who is patient and interactive instead of looking bored or sulky at a corner.
  • One who enjoys your company where you can laugh or bitch about things all the time.
  • One who also shops for oneself so you wouldn’t feel guilty shopping alone.
  • One who acts like a personal porter who helps to carry all your shopping loots while you browse, try on clothes and get the smaller / bigger sizes for you.
  • One who doesn’t make you feel guilty buying things you love and even supported your decision by asking “How often do you shop?”, “When will you get a chance to see something you like?” or “When will you ever have a chance to shop again?”. For busy working adults like myself, the answer to all three questions can be three to four months! That’s because I rarely shop online anymore and prefer to touch and feel my purchase.
  • One who allows you to spend your own earnings without making you feel like a criminal to splurge on yourself.

Have you found your best shopping companion? I think I did. What other traits do you think it takes to become a Perfect Shopping Companion!

photo (32)

It is time for a shopping trip! Haha. Yvonne, Alphania and I booked ourselves a flight to Bangkok in October for some serious shopping! I can’t wait to lug home a year’s worth of clothes! I heard the new Union Mall is great! Haha.

It will be our third holiday together after some eight years? We had our first holiday together in Secondary School when Yvonne celebrated her birthday in Genting Highland, Malaysia. Four years later, we headed to Redang, Malaysia to celebrate the completion of our polytechnic education! It was really fun! With lots of sand, sun, beach and snorkelling. This time round, it will be shopping, eating and massage! I can’t wait.

Just us girls at Wild Honey and Ippudo

After Yoga today, I met up with Yvonne and Alph for coffee and dinner! Yvonne is my primary school friend whom I have known for more than 15 years while Alph is our secondary school friend (us three girls all went to the same secondary school). I’m glad we are still sticking by to each other after one and a half decades and can still talk and laugh like before.

Probably the only type of coffee I drink other than Green Tea Latte. Mocha.

Had coffee and pancakes at Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery. Yummy food, great company and nice environment for a relaxing late afternoon. Thereafter, we proceed upstairs to Ippudo for some expensive but yummy ramen.

Timbre at Gillman Barracks

photo-98

It is my first visit to Gillman Barracks and I didn’t know there is a Timbre in this old colonial barracks.

Here is an introduction of Gillman Barracks extracted from their website.

“Gillman Barracks (GB) is Asia’s up-and-coming destination for contemporary art. It will be distinguished as a vibrant centre in Asia for the creation, exhibition and discussion of contemporary art.

Named after British general Sir Webb Gillman, GB is set amid lush greenery and was once a stronghold to the First Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment. The conserved colonial barracks now houses galleries and creative businesses, as well as the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) that will open in 2013.”

Mason and The Naked Finn are the two other dining options over there. It looks like a nice place for a Sunday brunch and weekend dinner.

photo-95

photo-96

We arrived at Timbre @ Gillman Barracks at 10.30pm on a Saturday night and am surprised to see many seats available at this place. Perhaps because of its inaccessibility, this Timbre is less crowded compared to their Art House and Substation branch. I love that there are plenty of parking space available (not free of course) and that it is nested in lush greenery! Even the decor revolves around hanging plants, wall of plants and plenty of greens! This is definitely a good place for drinks and life music without the queues and crowd.

Caught up with Lydia over Peri Peri Chicken

photo-53

photo-52

Caught up with Lydia babe over some peri peri chicken and love this girl to bits. Even though we hardly meet up, I love that we can still talk like old times. She is a friend whom I’m very close with during my poly days, the one who suffered with me in our first two years and the one who corrected my grammar in our group reports! Haha. She is getting married soon and is getting her house keys in a few weeks time! Excited for her! Read all about her wedding and home planning at her blog here!

photo-2

Wai Mun gave us a card with a photo of our first Christmas! Thank you Wai Mun! It is very sweet of her and this year it is our forth Christmas together as MT Batch 8! Thankfully our group remains intact and everyone is still here! We look so youthful then! Haha. They are the people who made work much more enjoyable and those bad and stressful times more bearable! I hope we will have many more years together!

photo-3

CW sent me this last night! Thank you girl! Even though she stole it off somewhere, but it was very meaningful to me and I love owls! I really do hope that us SSSS girls will grow old and wiser together. Thank you girls for standing by!

I have lots of backdated entries to share but lunch and yoga is more important! Till then!

Merry Christmas and have a joyful New Year. Stay happy and healthy!

I love my girls. Thank you SSSS girls for sticking around. Even though our opinions differ, we never judge and we stick by each other. That’s why I love them loads!

Forever SSSS

photo-27

Last Friday we had a staycation celebration with SSSS girls for Siqi’s final week of singlehood! I love these girls! Adding to the surprise, Lennel – SbR’s plumber – created these designs for us! Each quarter represents one of us, make a quick guess which one represents me!

In each designs, there is a unique icon which is unique to our wedding the background color is also in line with our wedding theme and the adjective describes each of us! Haha.

photo-28

The sweet Cheng Wei even had it printed for us! It was a great prop for photo taking!

photo

The design also makes a perfect iPhone wallpaper! Hah!

Answers:

Forever Sassy: Me! Ice cream cone bubble blower at my church wedding!

Forever Strong: Determined Squareberry Chengwei, who has a gigantic bow on her wedding dress.

Forever Sexy: Hotest girl and our best F1 Grid Girl, Siqi with autumn theme wedding!

Forever Sweet: Sweet loving Sue Ann who’s obsession with pink and bags can be seen in her wedding, home and lifestyle!

Hari Raya Celebration with Elias and Saliha

J’s friend, Elias and Saliha, invited us to their place for Hari Raya and gosh, the food is to die for, their home is lovely and Fiyyaz and Sarah’s baby, Yusof aka Joseph, is the cutest baby I’ve seen!

The Food

photo-2

Love their homemade cookies!

photo-11

Their chicken wings are to die for and I’m getting the recipe from Saliha! Not exactly helpful to my “Get Tone” plan though. Hah. Apparently, during Hari Raya, Malay families will cook a few dishes and host from morning till evening. The food will be replenished with every group of guests! While we were there, there were three other groups of guest streaming in. It is their version of open house where anyone can join them in the feasting!
